Meet Ruger — Utah’s Mold Detection Dog

He’s sharp, focused, and built for the job. Ruger is our mold detection dog, and he’s one of the most effective tools for finding hidden mold in homes and commercial properties across Utah.

Meet Ruger
Beau Brown

Ruger isn’t just a mascot — he’s part of the inspection team. Trained in-house to detect the scent of mold, Ruger can locate hidden problem areas that visual inspections and tools alone might miss.

We’re Utah’s only certified home inspection company with a trained mold detection dog, and Ruger brings a serious edge to our inspection capabilities. Whether you’re buying a home, checking a new build, or verifying a renovation, Ruger helps uncover what’s going on beneath the surface.

Why Mold Detection Dogs Work

Mold detection dogs rely on scent, not sight. That makes them uniquely capable of finding hidden mold growth behind walls, flooring, cabinetry, or finishes.

When Ruger alerts, we know exactly where to focus further investigation. This allows us to:

  • Identify hidden issues early — before they become major problems
  • Pinpoint specific areas for targeted remediation
  • Provide buyers and homeowners with clear, actionable information

This technique is especially useful in new construction, freshly flipped homes, and finished basements, where mold problems can be concealed by new materials and cosmetics.

When to Use Ruger

Ruger’s services are valuable in a wide range of situations, including:

  • New construction homes
  • Recently renovated or flipped properties
  • Historic buildings and older homes
  • Finished basements or additions
  • Properties with past water damage
  • Commercial buildings with concealed areas

If you suspect mold — or just want to be thorough — Ruger’s nose gives you confidence that nothing is hiding behind the drywall.

Pricing & Booking

You can book Ruger as a standalone service or add him to your home inspection:

  • Standalone Mold Detection: $300 for a full-property scent sweep, regardless of size.
  • Add-On to Inspection: $250 when combined with a home inspection.

This flat rate makes Ruger a simple, cost-effective way to add a serious layer of detection to your inspection.

Our Mold Detection Advantage

Most inspectors rely on visual cues alone. We add a biological sensor with a nose thousands of times more sensitive than yours.

  • In-house trained mold detection dog
  • Utah’s only certified inspection company with canine detection
  • Works on both residential and commercial properties
  • Accurate, non-destructive method to locate hidden mold

Ruger turns what’s usually a guess into something close to certainty.
